A healthy gut allows food to travel through the intestines with ease. Only tiny nutrients such as Vitamin C and Zinc, diffuse through the gut wall into the bloodstream, to help us keep nourished.
However the cells that line the gut can come apart. This is called ‘leaky gut’, whereby poorly digested fragments of food can escape out the lining of the gut into the blood. This is not healthy as the body thinks it is a bacteria and inflammation can occur. Nutrients don’t get fully absorbed and we become ill, functioning with lower levels of energy, possibly driving the onset of disease.
This is why it is important to eat well, so that the gut is strong and working efficiently, to absorb all nutrients to stop disease.
